Thought provoking! Let’s have a conversation about this post from NPR:

What are the resilience skills that the Black Medical Students, in this article, exemplify?

What lessons can we as adults and communities learn from this story for instilling in young people a love of learning, cultural pride, and a commitment to helping others as important factors for promoting future success, hope and well-being?

In the article, the medical students talk about the lessons and struggles of their ancestors who were slaves, and how they were an inspiration to them to be resilient, to show fortitude, to work hard, and not to have their dreams of being a role model and doctor deterred. What do you think enabled them to maximize that opportunity even within a society where historic racism and adversity can still make people feel marginalized?
