Mind Resilience and the Witness Factor

Sep 14, 2018 | Posted by Mind Resilience Organization | Mind Resilience, Trauma |

Over the past two and a half decades, the Human Services field has become aware of the impact of trauma. Trauma-Informed Care is now a common buzzword, and our communities are better off for it!

The article in Addiction Professional, where Claudia Black,  PhD, discusses the idea of the “witness factor,” however, takes the discussion of trauma to an even deeper level, and highlights the pervasiveness of the experience of trauma in our culture. The notion of the “witness factor” leads one to wonder if the number of those impacted by trauma in our society is actually many times higher than we realize.

Assuming that this is likely the unfortunate truth, the need to foster resiliency and the skills that strengthen resilience emerges as an absolute requirement for good mental health in the 21st century.

This is a topic worth discussing. In what ways have you developed your “resilience muscle”?  How do you see resilience fostered in our schools today?  In your community?  Please weigh in and let’s start this important discussion.
